Taurus PT1911 - On the Range Review
This is an "On the Range Review" of the Taurus PT 1911; very similar to the Colt 1911. I shot the video last winter prior to an injury and just recently completed the production. I love 1911s, especially the Colt Government Model; known better to some as the Government or M1911. I found this Taurus to be as fun and easy to shoot as the Colt. Thanks to my many subscribers for your patience as I recover and return producing videos for the RgR Channel. The gun I am currently reviewing, and really look forward sharing with you, is the Kimber Pro Carry II - a quality 9mm 1911 variant from Kimber.

They are three of the most popular carry revolvers of S&W and are considered models based on the very popular Chiefs Model from the 1950s later to become the Model 37 and Model 36. Smith still produces the Model 36 Classic. I WANT TO THANK ALL OF YOU, ...

Very interesting comments below. I have a 4006 - it was my first .40 S&W - and I find that the bore axis is high, resulting in slow follow up, as well as higher rotational stress to the wrist than necessary when firing. In fact, I bought it used from a shooter who was going back to 9mm because of the RSI he was experiencing with the 4006. I later bought a Taurus Millennium G2 - a polymer compact with a much lower bore axis and a full pound less weight. It is FAR easier to control, much faster in follow-up, and - probably because of the much lighter slide and resultant impact momentum - much lighter in perceived recoil. I think the reason so many PDs moved back to 9mm from .40 was the ergonomics of the gun they were shooting .40 with; had the 4006 been designed with more attention to police use, the .40 would still rule. It may be that S&W over-corrected with weight for recoil mitigation, given the 10mm recoil-caused popularity failure.

My dads friend who was a police detective carried the CA Bulldog 44 special in a shoulder holster and the CA undercover 38 special as a back up in an IWB holster. He always told me the quickest reload is another gun. Those old time cops new how to handle their revolvers very well and they loved their Charter Arms pistols.

You would control recoil better if you changed you grip from that thumbs locked down revolver grip to a right thumb over left thumb parallel to slide grip. You gain far more control as it gets both hands closer to the bore axis. It is a much more proper, and effective grip on a semi-auto.

In 1993, with not a lot of money, I bought my first handgun-a S&W 411, which was the lightweight aluminum-framed version of the 4006. It was less expensive and less deluxe-an “entry-level” pistol. I’ll never part with it, but I’ve always coveted the 4006 even from back then, but I wasn’t able to afford one, and then I started getting Glocks, anyway. It sucks that I missed the chance to own a 4006. I‘m not keen to buy used guns and never have done so. It’s too bad that S&W doesn’t make any steel-framed pistols anymore.

Well done. As my Texas law enforcement career was in its last decade, I was considering a replacement for my venerable Smith 586 Distinguished Combat Magnum with a pistol with both similar power as the 357 Magnum and greater capacity. In my thinking the 4003 and 4006 were the ticket. However, money was tight and I retired before I bought one. However, recently, I got a good deal on a Smith 410 American Pride version of the 4003. I took it out to a nearby pasture and loaded with alternating ball, hollow point and shot shells, it functioned flawlessly as I would expect of a handgun built and tested to exacting performance. I remained impressed with the authority of the 40S&W as well. Why others, not so experienced, may argue about 9mm and Glocks but in my book, 40S&W can perform very similarly to 357 magnum, the finest one shot stop cartridge ever fielded, and can provide twice the capacity. Nine millimeter cannot do that. I'm very glad I finally got my Smith third generation 40S&W pistol. It's the best.

Just found your review. The first 40 S&W firearm I shot many years ago was my friends early Performance Center first run Shorty Forty. The second 40 S&W firearm I shot many years ago was it's Performance Center bigger brother during the same session. The thing I remember about that session was that the full size gun actually has a different recoil impulse vs the Shorty in that it wants to torque in the hand. The Shorty shouldn't have been more controllable but it is.

I’m not necessarily opposed to someone carrying a .22 for concealed carry but I would NEVER carry ANY gun with a magazine disconnect safety. If your struggling with an attacker and your magazine gets dropped or unseated, that round in the chamber isn’t going to do you any good.

    • @RealGuysReviews
      @RealGuysReviews 4 роки тому

Agree. It could really be an issue. I am a surgeon and have seen many times through the years the damage a well place .22 can do. Lot more than a poorly placed 9 or .40. Thanks for viewing and I appreciate the comment. Makes the channel more fun.

RealGuysReviews - agreed. I wouldn’t want to get shot with a .22. Funny thing (Kind of) is that I was shooting my Walther PPK/S in .22 last weekend and something went wrong (not clear what) but the bullet exploded in the chamber and came out through the ejection port. My arm and face was covered with unburned gun powder and pieces of the bullet. Made realize how much energy there really is in a .22.

It’s now 2019 and law agencies are issuing 9mm with 40 and 45acp being an option for officers who want to use it. Even the secret service has gone to 9mm down from 357 sig. The FBI say now the 9mm is equal to the 40 caliber which we all know is crap all day long, 9mm will NEVER hit hard like the 40 caliber ever. Agencies just want to standardize their platform and caliber that all, citizens and gun shops are still selling 40 caliber in 2019 big time for those who want more thump like me. I have two Glock 9mm’s but I like my G22 better.

I make the videos for average guys like me and always try with all the videos to think of what I want to see went I buy a guy or want to see what might not make me not want to buy a gun. For instance, the Kimber 1911 is a wonderful but can be a nightmare for some to field strip, so why buy a gun that is so difficult to take down to clean. This might make some go to another gun. Thanks for the comment.

Man you are a good shot. I saw this little gun at a gun show, and immediately thought what a perfect little ladies gun. It is very light, very easy to carry, with no external hammer to cock the odds of accidental discharge are almost zero, and there is almost no recoil. So being the thoughtful husband that I am, I bought it for my wife. But when I proudly handed her my gift she said "no thanks. I don't want MY prints on that thing". She used to shoot trap with me years ago. She is a pretty good shot. But that was a long time ago and now she's not interested. And that's o.k because the more I handle this little gun the more I really like it. It conforms to your hand. Every single automatic pistol, rifle or shotgun I have ever owned jammed at some time. Not so with my revolvers. I'm glad she didn't take it that means it's mine now. I saw a green laser sight you can put on it. I think that will be the finishing touch on this little hi-tech jewel.

I have said for years that Kimber has a problem with the masses in this regard. When a gun is that hard to field strip, and I fully agree with you that it is, people tend to not clean and take care of it. And, as you said, then do not recommend that product to others. Thanks Mark, you are more than welcome to use the videos in any manner you wish. Yes Sir, they are definitely labor intensive. I do them only as a hobby - to share what I enjoy about the sport of shooting with others. Comments like yours make the time well spent.

My primary concealed carry gun is a Bersa Thunder 380 Plus. My big ol' 1911 45 ACP doesn't do me bit of good left at home.

Agree; if you don't carry it and don't shoot it, like I occasionally do on the range, I guess it is decorative only in your gun case. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

I’ve owned my PT1911 for a few years now. It has flawlessly performed with a variety of ammo offerings. The great trigger and match grade barrel make me a better shooter than what I expected to be. I purchased mine NIB for a little under $500. IMHO, the PT1911 is a superior pistol in that price range!

I had one comment that I showed too high a price on the gun. In the videos, I simply show the company retail to compare apples to apples. We all hope to beat that company price, and you got a great price. Thanks for viewing and commenting.

Thanks, Jim - one of our rainiest seasons in a longtime that prevented me from getting to my range and then followed by an accident that sidelined me longer than I anticipated. Thanks for viewing and commenting.
